Not cheap, but delicious!
It's the best in the city hands down. It's big its buttery it's on brioche and the fries are awesome too. Worth every penny.
Opens at 1130am. There's usually a line of 15+ people and it starts 30 min before they open but everyone gets seated. Go then and it can be lunch!
About $15
No. It is dine in only. No take out
No
First come first serve. You can put your name and number when you get there and they will call you when your table is ready. No reservations.
No definitely not good for kids. It is small and quite cramped
My sister and I spent a lot (over $100) eating delicious oysters & and a great chowder with sparkling wine. Unforgettable!
Our favorite Seafood location in Boston. Fresh Oysters and warm buttery Lobster Rolls with a nice selection of brews and wine. How can you go wrong?
A must try in Boston, I cant imagine finding more delicious lobsters elsewhere
Let's get the cons out of the way: you can't make reservations, the wait time is an hour at least regardless of the time of day/day of the week you come in, and the space inside is TINY (once I was seated at the bar, and people kept knocking into me on their way out). Pros: 3 minutes from Haymarket Station, one of those touristy things you should definitely do at least once if you're in Boston, an overall great little seafood spot. Awesome oyster bar, you can watch them shuck the oysters (great entertainment while you're waiting to be seated), and the staff is friendly enough even as they're trying to keep everyone moving so they can seat the next group of people.
We had a gift certificate to use, so got some fried clams, lobster rolls, chowder, and cole slaw. Quality of lobster roll, 7 out of ten, but pieces of shell a negative. Fried clams were bland , not hint of the ocean, except for the sand/grit. Chowder was thin, oily cream, and rubber band clam pieces, small uncooked potato chunks .So, not worth the calories Or the money.Better food at half the price at Legal’s. If in mood to drive, go Cape Anne or Cape Cod, just skip Neptune’s Oyster.
Best place in town. Lobster roll is tasty, and the oysters are perfect. The atmosphere is great, even though it is always crowded, and usually would have to expect an hour of wait. However, it is worth the wait, and there are plenty of coffee shops nearby to wait.
Excellent service with even better food. We got some oysters and clams from the raw bar menu, the staff was very knowledgeable and helpful, the oysters were amazing, fresh and tasty. For the main course my friend got the lobster roll which was tender and overflowing with lobster. I got the sea bass which was tender and in a delicious sauce. Very small location but is a definite must see if visiting Boston!
Got in line at around 11:15am on a Friday morning. There were a few people a head of us. We were allowed in at about 11:35. Since it’s not too big of a restaurant and was only 2 of us, we shared a table with 2 others. Servers were great, explained all of our options and the food was fantastic! We ordered the crab bisque, which was amazing, along with the hot lobster roll and a few oysters. The food was fresh, tasty and was served pretty quickly. Definitely get there early in order to be seated first.
Scallops crudo was the highlight. Hot lobster roll was too dry and bun too thick, though lots of lobster meat. The side arugula salad with pine nuts was delicious. Oysters are very fresh. Was excited to try uni toast, but it was so salty, it was inedible. It was the first batch of the night and think they used salted butter by mistake.
The wait was about an hour, but they’ll take your number and call you when your tables ready. It’s worth the wait. Go walk around the neighborhood. Lobster roll was perfect. Oysters were great and chowder is made to order. A little thinner consistency than you might expect, but flavorful and really good as well. No frills, just great food, and friendly staff.
This is not your "typical" chowder. It is more like a cream soup with large chunks of clams. Very light and refreshing. The lobster roll is huge, and the meat delicious. I question the choice of bread. Serious competition with row 34 lobster roll, but I prefer the latter with their butter toasted bread.
Traveled to Boston for a very long weekend. My boyfriend and I came here twice during our stay. We couldn't get over the fresh oysters and the several varieties they had available. Lobster roll was amazing. Scallops were cooked perfect. This place was our favorite part of our trip!
Reached at 1120+ am on Sunday, extremely lucky to take the last seat or else need to wait for one hour. The food came in after half an hour. It’s really worth the price ($33 before tax & tips) and the wait. Best salad I’ve ever had. Lobster tastes delicious, very fresh. The sauce is right on the spot as well. Really enjoyed the dish! Come in early to avoid the queue :)
Oysters are really good! Fresh juicy and tender. Goes perfectly with a glass of white wine, a must-try. Crab claws are just normal and OK. Lobster taco is nicely flavored, very loaded, recommended. The carrot salad comes with the tacos balances out the spicy taste coming from the lobster. But it’s Only available on Sundays. Oyster burger is worth trying, too. Nice flavor. Perfectly cooked. Clam chowder is so-so.
This place is a real 5. Arrived at noon on a rainy day and got the last table. It's always FULL. Try oysters! They have all kinds. I'm more I to cooked foods so I tried shrimp w grit. The clams were also wonderful. Always go for special of the day. Staffs were super nice and don't stress about the wait. They will call you when your table is ready!
Great selection of oysters here. On my day of visit, they even had Kumamoto oysters from Japan. Hot warm lobster is a must have. Other items are the menu are equally recommended. Some useful tips: come half an hour before they open to avoid long wait. Recommend and enjoy the food. The time and money is worthy.
Place was very small and had a very limited menu. However they did a very good job with COVID-19 precautions. I would not be opposed to trying it out again when they have a full menu.
Celebrated passing the bar here a few months ago. Great vibe, hip but polite, quality produce and loved the oyster-tasting-menu experience ! We sat at the end of the room, owner was great at advising us in f&b. Beer selection rocks (my girlfriend who doesn't like beer kept mentioning how good it was!). Will come back if again in Boston.
Simply the best Oysters I’ve eaten anywhere! In addition, their other dishes are great too, especially the lobster rolls. Love the atmosphere, service is great and it’s always buzzing inside. I like that it’s small inside but just means you have to arrive early otherwise be prepared to wait. Always at the top of my list when visiting Boston - highly recommended!
First time in the area, the outdoor seating complemented the inside decor. The staff was extremely helpful, kind and attentive with our first time there. Highly suggest the Razor Clam Casino!! Had the Whole Rockport Mackerel, and let me tell you this dish is packed with flavor and has a little bit of kick to it. Be sure to make room for it! Thank you again to the staff!
There's no way I can give this place 5 stars. The food was great, my server was great. The wait and the extremely poor estimate of how long we would be waiting was unacceptable and appears to be the norm. Quoted at 45 minutes for a party of 3...Fine. Almost two hours later, there's a mob of 9 hangry people waiting outside, every one of us long past our wait times. No updates, no snacks to tide us over, no bar service to at least get a drink while we wait. The overall experience was poor (maybe because I was standing outside in the cold the entire time). I'm glad I went but have no plans on every going back.
Always a pleasure to dine here! The line/ wait can get pretty long but with that expectation, be prepared to maybe take a walk around the area (which has a very nice view and many shops around) and then you'll work up an appetite for the delicious food! My experience is usually for brunch so I can't say how it is wait time wise for dinner.I am here especially for the oysters of course, which has many you can choose from, and we often get different entries or appetizers so we can taste multiple dishes.
So the good was so good i ate it before i could take a picture, lobster roll hot and cold was amazing as well as the scallops. Best selection of oysters i have ever had
Amazing food. Highly recommended. Compliments to the chef.
If you want oysters, this is the only spot you should go in Boston. But be ready for a long wait, as this place is always popular. Even for lunch for one on a weekday, expect an hour wait. On the weekends, a table for two can take several hours — there are many great bars and sights to see in the area so the wait goes by quickly. The hostess that usually takes names is a no nonsense woman, she’s cold and has to deal with tourists and those who aren’t willing to deal with the long lines. Don’t take it personally! Once inside, you’ll be able to enjoy the cozy atmosphere and see all of the fresh seafood Neptune has to offer. Enjoy the wide selection of oysters and fresh pastas, it’s well worth your time.
A very quaint restaurant with amazing food and service. On a trip to Boston we knew we had to try a lobster roll and oysters. Neptune’s did not disappoint! We arrived around 6pm, having read the reviews knew there would be a little wait. Surprisingly the wait wasn’t that bad. We opted to sit at the bar and were greeted by Jeff who helped us pick a wonderful bottle of riesling. He was attentive and offered us great places to visit while in Boston! Great conversation with the bartender, a wonderful ambiance and spectacular seafood made Neptune a place we’ll definitely be visiting again.
Best oysters you will ever have in your life
I go to this marvelous place every couple of days as I enjoy the special atmosphere that is part of this place. The personel is awfuly helpful and experienced. The service is impressively rapid. Needless to say, the food they cook is exceptionaly good. I came many times and I was always delighted. The expense is modest. I suggest this place to to everybody.
Best place for oysters! Although they weren't in season, they gave us options for something similar. Prices were good. A nice stop for tourists to enjoy a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Definitely a must if you're a visitor to Boston!
The Lobster roll is $38. It is not worth that, as any sandwich wouldn't be. I just got one at Maine Lobster in Raleigh NC that was 100% better and $17 which is a fair price. The fries were good but not going back.
Delicious and always fresh seafood. The staff is very friendly and professional. Place was clean and the prices are fair.
The food is truly top-notch, the service was fast and efficient and the atmosphere was great!
Small place with good food.Plan to wait, we did on a Saturday evening for about 25 minutes. Oysters were excellent with a great selection. Hot Lobster Roll was enjoyed by the wife. Crab Bisque and Clam Chowder were wonderful.
Very cozy oyster bar. Oysters were fresh and good quality- a lot to choose from too. I love the lobster roll but you can probably find equally good ones elsewhere for cheaper. The other dishes we tried, primarily seafood, were also delicious. Be prepared for the queue though especially in winter- there is limited room for waiting inside...
Great oyster selection. Great atmosphere and great staff. The descriptions of oyster flavors are extremely accurate
I was very eager to try the clam chowder soup however I was disappointed to find it was underwhelming with incorrect consistency and full of shells. Displeasing to eat as I was cautiously chewing trying not to end up at the dentist after the restaurant. I heard the lobster roll is good however I was too full to try. I will give Neptune another try and hopefully won’t be disappointed again. 2stars because the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Busy, busy, busy. Great food, yes. Fresh ingredients, yes. Spacious and roomy, mostly certainly not. This probably contributes to the wait times and the long lines. Portion sizes are good, not enough to share with another but not so small that you are not satiated. The waitress will greet you at the door promptly and take your name and number allowing you to continue strolling through the north end district. Once seated the service is likewise prompt, very professional and engaging. Food is served in a timely manner. The seating does not allow for much privacy or individual tables for two. But the noise level is not so loud that conversation is not manageable. Bathroom, there is but one and the lighting is extremely dim. Cell phone flashlight will brighten the room tremendously.
Great oysters, wonderful selection, good drink pairings. Would like to go back and try more!
Got here at eleven o'clock on a Friday, half an hour before it opens, and there is already a long line of people. We ended up not able to get in among the first seating and had to wait an hour for the tables to turn. So definitely arrive earlier than that to catch the first seating. The food was phenomenal though. We all have the hot lobster roll and the thing was filled to the brim with lobster. They also have a good selection of oysters and they are fresh too!
Great seafood, nice atmosphere and great prices! Highly recommended.
One of the best seafood experiences I've had so far. The fresh oysters are delicious, and so are the lobster rolls. Staff is very friendly and accommodating, and everything is set in a contemporary cool atmosphere. Definitely a must when in Boston.
Lives up to the hype and is well worth the wait (we only had to wait about 10 minutes on a Sunday afternoon. It depends what time/day you go). We had oysters and shrimp from the raw bar, and split a bowl of chowder and a lobster roll. Everything was excellent, particularly the lobster roll which is a must-try. Servers were very friendly as well.
Got take out—from hot lobster rolls to chowder to the Maine Lobster Salad. Everything was absolutely incredible. One of the best meals in a long time. My son said his lobster roll was his favorite ever. And he’s had many. And the Maine Lobster Salad...heaps of perfectly seasoned fresh lobster meat, heirloom tomatoes, burrata. Tantalizingly good. Worth every penny if you want a really special feast.
Spectacular sea food and hip atmosphere! Went there for lunch and did not want to leave. We ordered the lobster and sea food bake atter for two and dis not want it to end. Great service and staff too!
Hard to get into, but after you put your name in they just call or text you telling you to come back and your table is ready! A small, LOUD place, but worth it. Everything is so fresh, the lobster rolls- buttered and cold are amazing, good drinks, good everything! Worth the aggravation of finding a parking spot and the wait- it is YUMMY!
Lively atmosphere. It was crowded but we were seated efficiently within no time. The buttered lobster roll was fantastic while the lobster spaggetini and the clam chowder were no small feat either. Overall an enjoyable meal.
A small, wonderful gem in Boston- one of my favorite parts of our trip. The chowder was impeccable as was the crab and the oysters! Worth the wait!
A MUST VISIT IN BOSTON! it’s so fresh and delicious! we ordered the lobster rolls and some oysters. so good that I will visit Boston again to come back to this.
This spot offers wonderful service and yummy meals. The best spot in town. The meals came out rapidly and the prices were fair. I recommend this place.
All of the food is delicious. And the atmosphere is my favorite - cozy, great lighting, lively but not too loud. I went alone and was seated immediately at the bar... Twice, which was great. Prepare to wait if you come with 2+ people though.
Excellent service, outdoor section and option of oysters to choose from!
